1. Artwork and Specification Review

3. Sampling and Approval
A physical sample is produced and sent for review, typically within 3-7 days, with rush timing of approximately 1-3 days when available. The buyer approves the sample or requests revisions. Everything that follows - colours, placement, backing, edge - is measured against that approved reference.
4. Bulk Production
Production runs on the embroidery, weaving and PVC lines, with a typical bulk window of 7-15 days after artwork and order details are confirmed. Colour lots are matched to the approved sample and stitch or mould parameters follow the digitizing and separation plan.
5. Cutting, Edging and Backing
After the material is produced, patches are cut and edged. Merrowed edges give the classic stitched border, while heat-cut edges give a clean flat outline, and the finished piece can be trimmed around complex shapes. 6. Inspection and Packing
Each stage is checked during production and a final check is completed before packing, following the documented quality steps for the plant. Production Details Inside Each Stage
Embroidery uses polyester or rayon thread depending on the finish the buyer wants, and the stitch file controls density, underlay and thread changes so the design builds up cleanly without puckering the ground fabric. Colour is approved against the sample rather than against screen colours, because thread and ink never match a monitor exactly. For woven patches the weave structure is set in the separation stage, and fine text survives because the construction is flatter than embroidery; PVC is moulded from the approved mould plan, so simple bold shapes and clean colour blocks work better than fine gradients.
Cutting and edging are where the patch takes its final silhouette. A merrowed edge wraps a stitched border around the shape and is the classic choice for traditional emblems. Heat-cut edges trim cleanly along complex outlines and give a flat, modern look, and for some programmes the edge colour is specified separately from the face of the design. The edging decision should be part of the first specification rather than an afterthought, because it changes both the look and the machine step used for the run.
Backing is applied after edging and turns the patch into a finished attachable product. Sew-on patches ship with no adhesive so they can be stitched in place, iron-on patches carry a heat-activated adhesive film, and Hook and Loop patches are laminated with the hook side ready for a loop surface on the garment or cap. Adhesive options exist for temporary placement. Each backing changes the application method and the care instructions, and the choice is confirmed with the artwork before sampling so the sample is produced with the real backing.
